Make a living by your temperament

 　　The saying "to make a living based on one's temperament" implies that without it, everything goes wrong, leading to unhappiness and a difficult situation. Who makes a living based on temperament? Precisely those with good innate qualities.

　　They may be handsome, intelligent, insightful, and possess many talents, but lacking temperament, they often succumb to vices like lust, filial impiety, arrogance, greed, anger, and hatred. If their moral character doesn't match their innate advantages, they will be mismatched and unable to find their place. Those with

　　good innate qualities may feel resentful towards those of lower status, but lacking temperament, they must stand on tiptoe, hoping for a futile effort, which is quite embarrassing.

　　Those with good innate qualities must further restrain their emotions and desires, striving for progress in worldly affairs and also cultivating their moral character. This includes vegetarianism, physical exercise, abstinence, frequent self-reflection, filial piety, a gentle demeanor, broadening their knowledge, maintaining reverence, and performing good deeds…

　　only then can they cultivate that temperament. The world often operates this way: a person with good innate qualities who lacks self-respect may even fare worse than someone with average abilities.

　　Intelligent yet lazy, beautiful yet arrogant, wealthy yet extravagant and dissolute, talented yet wicked. Even if intelligent and wise, they find fault with everything, always wanting to chime in, and lacking tact in speech. Poor posture, leg shaking, speaking too quickly, and a quick temper are all mistakes.

　　They could have become well-rounded individuals, but accumulated small flaws became major ones, ultimately losing all their charm.

　　They have good fortune, but never received the influence of excellent culture, never strictly disciplined themselves, becoming somewhat eccentric. Being

　　eccentric is neither here nor there, like duckweed adrift, always feeling misunderstood, wallowing in self-pity.

　　Precisely because their innate conditions are better than others, it means they cannot afford to make a single wrong step, otherwise they will quickly lose their true nature, making the path to goodness even more difficult.

　　Don't complain about the ups and downs of your life… isn't it because you've failed to live up to your natural gifts? Everyone has their own responsibilities; your responsibility is to be strict with yourself and not succumb to bad habits.
