The taste of a lemon

Baidu Baike says that lemons are evergreen shrubs and small trees belonging to the Rutaceae family and the Citrus genus. They prefer warmth and shade, but dislike heat.

I love lemons—I love their light fragrance, their bright appearance, and their symbolic meaning: unspoken love. Sunlight streams through the window, falling on my desk. An English reading book and a cup of lemon tea—this is my usual routine during the holidays. I read English to pass the time, and it's something I've always wanted to learn but haven't consistently pursued. This is a way to make up for a small regret. Two slices of lemon and two sugar cubes are enough for me to enjoy for a whole morning. Lemons are slightly bitter, and the two sugar cubes perfectly neutralize that bitterness. Even though I don't like sweets, lemon tea is just what I crave.

It's said that France consumes the most lemons in the world, often using lemon juice for flavoring or garnishing food. Occasionally, I see French chefs on TV sprinkling lemon juice on steaks, which sounds delicious.

In the early stages of a cold, drinking lemon tea can even cure it without medication. I recall the lemon tea Ouyang Jian poured for Gu Xiaojun in the TV series "Da Zhang Fu"—it's something to long for. So, I wondered if there would be someone in my life who would offer me a warm cup of lemon tea when I had a cold. Often, I feel I shouldn't trouble others with my problems; I should rely on myself. Gradually, I've become more independent, but there will always be a time when you need someone to lean on.

Just like my love for lemons, with someone or something, perhaps it's just a simple first encounter, and I can't help but like it. Later, as I get to know them better, even if you discover some minor flaws, it won't affect the beauty you feel for them. Perhaps the story will end unexpectedly one day, without regret, like the ginkgo leaves in the essay book by my bedside, exuding a faint scent of leaves.

I love the taste of lemons, and I love the feeling you give me.
